West Carina: Seadrill and Petrobras extend contract

Seadrill confirmed the extension of the contract for the seventh-generation drillship West Carina with Petrobras, securing the unit’s operations in Brazil until April 2026. The drillship has been active under contract with Petrobras since November 2022, supporting offshore drilling campaigns in ultra-deepwater environments.

Built in 2014, West Carina is designed to operate in water depths of up to 12,000 ft and drill wells reaching 37,500 ft, positioning the unit among the high specification assets required for Brazil’s pre-salt and complex offshore developments. The contract extension ensures operational continuity for Petrobras while maintaining Seadrill’s exposure to the Brazilian offshore drilling market.

The extension in Brazil is part of a broader series of contract awards announced by Seadrill across key offshore regions. In Southeast Asia, the company secured a contract for the drillship West Capella in Malaysia, scheduled to commence in 2Q26, with an estimated contract value of approximately US$157 million. In the North Sea, Seadrill also confirmed a contract for the West Elara jack-up rig in Norway, expected to start in 3Q26 and valued at around US$78 million.

Together, the awards reflect continued demand for high-specification drilling assets across multiple basins, with Brazil remaining a core market for ultra-deepwater operations.
